AT&T will expand GigaPower in LA with Internet Speeds up to 1 Gigabit per Second

1 Gigabit per second is a dream come true. Specially for all those Netflix lovers out there who don’t like to be waiting around to see their favorite tv shows in High Definition, right away after pressing play.

I had the chance to chat with Rehan Assad today, AVP of Broadband Planning at AT&T, and he told me GigaPower is going to be great to stream content in 4K. So if you have a Netflix account, it’s time to upgrade to the UHD plan (same thing for Amazon Video, Prime members). With speeds up to 1 gigabit per second you can download 25 songs in 1 second, a TV show in 3 seconds or your favorite HD movie in less than 36 seconds. Not bad!

GigaPower launched back in December in LA and it’s expanding to more homes, and apartments in of Eastvale, Irvine, Los Angeles, Orange County and surrounding communities. AT&T has a website where you can check if GigaPower is available in your building or neighborhood. Also, you can leave your e-mail so you get a notification once GigaPower gets to your area.

Rehan Assad was able to answer some of my really “techie” questions. I can confirm that AT&T will include the equipment we will need at home to get these speeds. Modem and router will combined and will be dual band, meaning that we will be able to have two Wifi signals with 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

AT&T’s goal is to triple availability of GigaPower by the end of the year.

AT&T GigaPower Internet Premier offers Internet speeds up to 1Gbps for as low as $110 a month or speeds up to 300Mbps for as low as $80 a month. You will be able to bundle it with DirecTV and Uverse.
