A “Seekender” in Chicago

Note: This is a sponsored post created in collaboration with Hampton by Hilton and Latina Bloggers Connect.

You should know this by now but my name is Pablo and I have a positive obsession about traveling. Every time I have a chance, I’ll book a ticket and go to a new place. When Hampton by Hilton approached me to be part of their new campaign and share my adventures with my followers I was really excited about the opportunity to inspire other people.

I usually plan everything last minute and try to take advantage of three-day weekends. My adventures start on the plane, that moment when you know “the sky’s the limit”. That’s where I get to disconnect, I get inspired to work on current or new projects, watch my favorite shows, etc. Once I land, the adrenaline kicks in and I’m ready for a new experience. I’m a Seekender and my next adventure has taken me to Chicago.

According to a recent survey about travel trends, conducted by Wakefield Research on behalf of Hampton by Hilton, a Seekender is someone who takes advantage of the weekends to explore and spontaneously enjoy new experiences, with travel being at the top of the list. These weekend travelers are motivated by four main passion: sports, the outdoors, music, and food. Are you a Seekender?

Paul Lenk The Bean

I heard so many good things about Chicago but I never had the chance to travel here before. “The Windy City” is, luckily, not that windy during the summer. A good friend of mine had already warned me: “if you come to visit, do it during summer time”. But I’ve to admit I’m curious and would love to fly back to see Lake Michigan during the winter. Last minute trip, so in order to save some time at check-in, I used the digital check-in and room selection from Hampton by Hilton, which allows guest to bypass the front desk completely, using my smartphone as room key.

I like to enjoy good cocktails from rooftops, so my first destination -after dropping off my luggage- was The John Hancock Center. You’ll find the famous Signature Lounge at the 95th floor of one of the tallest buildings in the city. The view? Unforgettable. Nothing like grabbing your first drink here. Afterwards, a 10 min walk to the pier, where you can have some ice cream or grab dinner.

That’s only the first chapter of this story.

On Saturday, I decided to wake up early and visit “The Bean“. Took breakfast with me after requesting the  On the Run® breakfast-to-go bag from Hampton by Hilton. Yep, it’s hard to get a good photo here but if you wake up early enough, you’ll avoid the crowds and get the perfect Instagram shot. I was really impressed by the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, designed by Frank Gehry (same architect that designed The Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles). It’s easy to have brunch in this area and then, if you love Arts, you need to visit The Art Institute of Chicago, where you’ll find incredible masterpieces, including a self-portrait of Vincent Van Gogh.

One of the most popular activities in the city is the architectural boat tours. On Wednesdays and Saturdays they have one that departs at 9pm and includes a show with fireworks. PICK THIS ONE! Weather is perfect and there’s nothing like seeing fireworks from Lake Michigan in the middle of the night.

On Sunday I decided to rent a bike, explore Lincoln Park and its public zoo. At night, I couldn’t avoid trying some of Chicago’s Latin food and had dinner at Cafe Iberico.
